Three trees demonstrate the thermal reality of being on the edge of a forest. The forest itself if warmer because of reduce convection (wind). Out of this windbreak, these trees are cooler than the forest. They are also cooler than the ground, which is being directly warmed by radiation and has reduced convection due to the ground's boundary layer.
